About Emily
Emily Ann Bluemel Clark was born and raised in beautiful, historical, rose covered Pasadena, California. The brash and ballsy little dame took to the "actor's life" early on, what with her father being a classically trained actor, her mother a musician and performing arts teacher, her brother a whacked out visual artist, and her stepdad a singing cowboy. By the time 6th grade rolled around, Emily nailed her first big role as Miss Hannigan in ANNIE. There was no turning back after that! Her formative years were spent getting lots of training from the Pasadena Musical Theatre Program, the Los Angeles County High School for the Arts, where she majored in Vocal Music and Dance, and the University of California, Santa Cruz, where Emily earned a Bachelor's Degree in Theatre and History.
Emily's adult life has been spent nourishing her two greatest passions: building theatre companies and teaching the performing arts to kids! She is a founding member of THE MECHANICALS THEATRE GROUP (founded along with her fellow LACHSA grads), where she was a part of numerous Mechanicals productions in various capacities, including as an actor, director, costume designer and stage manager. During a 2-year stint in New York City, Emily found a kindred spirit in Pamela Eberhardt: a writer and fellow actor. Together, Emily and Pam founded THE UNKNOWN ARTISTS, and with the group, she made her Off-Broadway debut in the original musical, IT'S ABOUT TIME (Ashley), which she also co-directed. Recently, Emily helped to bring The Unknown Artists' PLAY CLUB to LA, which gives opportunities to actors and playwrights.
Emily's day jobs are equally awesome. She spends the school year as the Performing Arts Teacher at Sierra Madre Middle School, where she teaches Drama, Vocal Music, and even has a totally hip and trendy Glee Club. Emily is also the Junior Director of the Pasadena Musical Theatre Program, where she works with kids from ages 9 to 17!
Thinking that people might find her wacky life story entertaining, Emily put together an autobiographical cabaret show called, SLIGHTLY DRAMATIC, which she wrote with her good friend, Ryan Scott Oliver. The show has already been performed at some fantastic venues including Sterling's Upstairs at Vitello's and Caffeinated Cabaret!
